Language, Literacy and Communication
In Language, Literacy and Communication we will focus on garden themed books such as the tiny seed and the hungry caterpillar. We will look at different forms of writing including; ordering stories, poetry, persuasive writing and instructional writing.
We will develop our writing skills as we learn to write more independently using our sounds and high frequency words. The children will also be focusing on their reading skills through reading and carrying out instructions.
Also, we will be developing our persuasive writing by creating posters to encourage children to look after our locality and environment.
In Mathematical Development we will focus on a range of mathematical areas including; number, sequence addition, subtraction, money, symmetry and time. Throughout our topic work we will explore and apply our knowledge of numbers to add and subtract petals on flowers. We will compare and measure heights of sunflowers and explore symmetry using butterfly wings.
We will be focusing on sequence of numbers such as counting in 2’s and 10’s and using reading skills to read number words. We Also will be focusing on transferring mathematical skills to role play activities such a buying items from the garden centre.
Personal and Social Development, Well Being and Cultural Diversity
We will explore friendships, what makes a good friend and how we interact with our friends. We will develop our social interactions, by understanding responsibility and of our own actions and the consequences they have on others. We will learn to value friendships and how to form good relationships.
In Knowledge and Understanding of the World our focus is looking after our locality. We will be looking at recycling and composting and how we can look after and sustain our planet. We will be exploring life-cycles of animals and plants and identify animals that live in our gardens. We will continue to enhance our Numeracy skills by making comparisons between seasons and sorting and classifying objects.
