Assessment and Progression
Assessment arrangements and pupil progress has also changed in light of the new curriculum. Here is an update of the new assessment arrangements:
The purpose of the Curriculum for Wales is to develop our learners as:
Ambitious, capable learners
Healthy, confident individuals
Enterprising, creative contributors
Ethically, informed citizens
We incorporate the following four purposes characters into all learning opportunities at Henllys.
Healthy Huw
Healthy Huw confidently makes sensible choices about his diet and enjoys keeping fit. He lives a very healthy lifestyle.
He loves a challenge and shows perseverance, which means he never likes to give up! He also shows compassion towards others and always encourages them to have a go.
Healthy Huw can often solve problems on his own but he is always willing to ask for help, when he needs it.
Ethical Elinor
Ethical Elinor is always aware of what is happening in the world around her. She enjoys learning about places and people she knows now, and in the past.
Ethical Elinor loves looking after the world including people, plants and animals. She respects people from all backgrounds and understands that her choices and actions carry consequences for her and others.
She sees the importance of considering facts in order to form her own opinions and she understands what she can and should do in the world around her.
Enterprising Ellen
Enterprising Ellen creates ideas and is not afraid to get things wrong. She always has a go!
She can solve problems by believing in herself and using different methods.
Enterprising Ellen is both a leader and a team member and often chants, ‘There is no I in team.’
She can share ideas and say how she feels about things. She is always happy, which makes others around her feel safe and confident.
Ambitious Aled
Ambitious Aled is a confident hard worker and he always tries his best to improve his own high standards.
He is very inquisitive and enjoys solving problems, using excellent I.T. skills.
Ambitious Aled is an independent and popular pupil, who is always willing to share his ideas and knowledge. He is good at English and Welsh and uses these skills throughout his work. He enjoys maths and loves a challenge.
Here is our Teaching and Learning Policy which has been written in light of the new Curriculum for Wales.
Church in Wales Statement on Education
Wales has a rich and distinctive culture with its own language, customs, festivals, music and politics. It is a culture in which many diverse views co-exist within a society bound by the common values of democracy and the rule of law. This diversity creates the dynamic and vibrant society, which reflects modern Welsh life where all social, cultural, religious and spiritual beliefs are scrutinized, and those who hold them are respected and treated equally.
The celebration and underpinning of this diversity are fundamental to the ethos of Church in Wales schools and should be embedded in all aspects of the curriculum through rich learning experiences. Throughout its history Wales has welcomed people of different faiths and from different cultures, and via its teaching of the subject of religion, values and ethics, the Church in Wales supports an approach which promotes the understanding of and respect for all religions, beliefs and non-religious world views, thus reflecting the diversity that exists in our forward-looking Welsh society.
Our approach celebrates a creative, compassionate education that embraces and empowers, ensuring that children and young people are supported to engage with matters of “purpose, faith and belief” and to fulfill their roles as valued members of society ready to play a full part in life and work as ethical, informed citizens of Wales and the world.
Following guidance from the Church in Wales, here is our R.V.E. curriculum overview.

Here is our new RSE policy which outlines what we are going to be teaching the pupils this year.
The RSE Code and statutory guidance is in place for those schools who adopted
their curriculum in September. Those schools are legally required to deliver the Code but the Code gives us discretion about when specific learning should be covered. We are taking the time to build our confidence in delivering content in this aspect of the curriculum. Here is the link to the RSE code.

This is supported by the following statutory guidance which schools must read carefully and should follow.
https://hwb.gov.wales/curriculum-for-wales/designing-your-curriculum/cross-cutting-themes-for-designing-your-curriculum/#relationships-and-sexuality-education-(rse):-statutory-guidance
Crucially, when developing lesson plans and selecting resources, we have taken our time to get these right. We are not going to deliver content or use resources that we do not consider are developmentally appropriate or that we are not comfortable with or feel confident in using. We will only introduce learning when we are confident that it is developmentally appropriate for our learners.
